Simply Telling The Right Story Of Your Life

Everything in life seems to have gotten more complicated these days. Nothing seems to be simple and straightforward. From ordering a coffee to choosing a glass of wine in a bar – it’s all about choices and options now. Does anyone even remember when a black or white coffee was all you ever asked for? Now it’s lattes, Americanos, mochas, expressos, small, medium, large, skimmed or semi-skimmed milk, decaf or normal, organic, Fair Trade, the list goes on. It’s no different with wine. Once it was a glass of house white or red, now there are dozens of bottles, brands, regions, grapes, glass sizes and all the rest to choose from.

It’s all meant to make things better for us: more choice. But it can also mean more chance of making the wrong choice and so getting it wrong. And the same is true of putting together your Curriculum Vitae. Seriously.

It wasn’t that long ago that nobody minded much how your CV looked so long as it was neat, legible and contained the relevant information. Three and four page CVs were not unheard of, or frowned upon. Individualisation of your CV was not uncommon either, and none of the above was a barrier to getting further in the job application process.

Not any more. Compiling a CV these days requires all the precision of a circus acrobat team in order to ensure it says just the right things in just the right way. And where once one standard, generic CV did the job of acting as an application for every job, now each CV you send out needs to be tailored to the specific needs of the company you are applying to. And it’s all got to be neatly

and orderly presented on one or two pages, all the while illustrating your more than competent ICT skills. The term ‘Curriculum Vitae’ literally translated means ‘the story of your life’, and so that is what it contained. Nowadays it really means ‘the story of the relevant parts of your life relating to the job and company you are applying for. It is also more and more a direct marketing tool, used to promote you and your skills, abilities and suitability for the job over and above all the other candidates.

It is, therefore, an essential tool for getting you noticed and as far as the interview stage in the process of securing a job. It’s enough to put you off even bothering to start writing your CV. But then starting is often the hardest part anyway, so the whole process can appear somewhat daunting. However, help is at hand. There are, out there in the world of the Internet that is fast becoming everyone’s best friend, websites dedicated to helping you, in easy to understand, step-by-step stages, how to prepare the best possible CV that you can for the job you will be applying for.

With loads of hints, tips and explanations as well, the process of putting your CV together has never been simpler to do, enabling you to present the right story of your life, in the right way, to the right potential employer.
