The event is preceded by 7-days-nights market at Tembiring Jogo Indah Square, Wonosalam sub-district, Demak regency. The Grebeg Demak ritual itself is held on Dzulhijjah 9th or December 7th, 2008 at 19.00 P.M.. When the Tumpeng Sembilan (nine large bamboo platters of cone shaped rice surrounded by various side dishes and vegetables) are brought in to a procession from the Demak regent’s residence to the Demak Grand mosque on the city centre for being blessed and then distributed to the visitors. On the following day at 08.00 A.M., the Jamas Oil is carried by the Demak regent as the Adipati dressed in Beskap (Javanese traditional male clothing) from his residence to the Kadilangu graveyard followed by the Patangpuluhan soldiers. At the Kadilangu graveyard, about 2 kilometers from Demak city centre, the washing ceremony of Keris Kyai Crubuk and Kotang Ontokusumo is held. The washing of these heirlooms is done by the Kadilangu leader which is as well Sunan Kalijaga’s descendant.
